Elyse draws doods. They are small, blunt, and unreasonably emotional. A teardrop takes a smoke break. A triangle asks a flower to be friends on the grounds that they are both disproportionately sized. A hand reaches, and the page just says reach.
The work is made in sketchbooks, in ink and marker, and occasionally finished digitally. It is not precious about its materials. What holds it together is the emotional register: every dood wants something, and most of them are not going to get it.
DOODS WITH EMOTION is the first body of work assembled under DRY DOODS, an ongoing curatorial project.
